The Miso Method
Before you add weight,
start with how you move.
At Bodymiso, resistance training comes after alignment, activation and movement coaching. Here are the five stages we work through—and why the order matters.

Alignment
First, we adjust the position of your pelvis and rib cage.

We don't think of this as simply ‘correcting’ posture. Everyday habits can leave you moving from an uneven starting position, and that can create a pinching sensation.
For example, a glute exercise may feel pinchy when your pelvis is rotated. Before you begin, we make a small adjustment and keep one side from taking over.
Often, the side that feels uncomfortable is already doing more of the work.
Activation
Next, we help the muscles that aren't doing their share get involved.

At this stage, we work without weights. There are plenty of ways to make a movement challenging without adding load.
The goal here isn't bigger muscles. In our approach, building strength on top of an existing imbalance can reinforce that imbalance.
Movement coaching
We guide you through the movement and help you feel what's working.

If your head sits forward and your shoulders round inward, opening your chest may be difficult because your rib cage isn't moving freely.
We talk you through what is happening: ‘It looks like your arm is moving, but feel how your upper back is moving too.’ We also use hands-on cues to help you notice the area involved.
Resistance
Once those foundations are in place, we introduce resistance.

How much weight you lift isn't the point. And resistance training isn't where the method ends.
Body awareness
Finally, you learn to notice your own movement and make adjustments yourself.

That includes the habits you carry into everyday life. The aim is to keep that awareness going without needing us beside you.
Where we draw the line
- We don't start with massage.
- We work on alignment before adding weight.
- We don't push you beyond your range of motion.
- We don't diagnose medical conditions. If you have tingling or burning sensations even at rest, we recommend seeing a doctor first.
This guide explains how we work at the studio. It isn't a personal exercise plan.
